During 2027, thanks to EXPO 2027, Belgrade will be the world capital of innovation. Representatives of many countries will be in Serbia for the aforementioned exhibition. Numerous newspapers are also planned that will enrich our city. President Vučić announced the new National Stadium, a fair with accompanying facilities, and over 1,500 residential units will be built. According to previous announcements, Serbia should profit from this project by about one billion euros.
- In 2027, we are organizing the EXPO, everything must be finished by December 1, 2026. We have a huge amount of work to do to get everything right. I am convinced that with enormous energy we will be able to show what Serbia can look like, said Vučić during a joint conference with Prime Minister Ana Brnabić.
EXPO 2027 will primarily affect the economy of our country. A large inflow of money, as well as investment, is expected, which therefore means a stronger economy and better economic growth.
In Surčin, a new fair and facilities for an international specialized exhibition will be built on 25 hectares, and as the president announced, 1,500 housing units will be built for about 3,000 people, which will be offered to buyers at favorable prices immediately after the EXPO.
For the needs of the EXPO, a "lex specialis" is being developed, which should regulate the construction of these facilities, i.e. that the procedures and procedures of that law should be accelerated both during construction and during public procurement.
With this project, a "real small town" is emerging near Surčin. The EXPO 2027 complex is planned as a multifunctional space. Therefore, in addition to the exhibition spaces, it will also have accompanying commercial and accommodation facilities that should provide logistical support, and as stated in the documentation, due to the possibility that the space will grow into a significant economic and tourist center for the City of Belgrade, as well as for the Republic of Serbia. .
For now, as announced, the National Architectural Competition for the Serbian Pavilion will be organized in September.
Thus, on the plot south of the National Stadium, it is planned to build fair exhibition halls in a row arranged along the central promenade. It will lead to the circular square around which the thematic pavilions and our national pavilion are planned, according to the Spatial Plan.
EXPO 2027 is divided into 3 parts:
The E1 spatial-functional unit is planned as an exhibition space with planned buildings-pavilions and accompanying contents (halls, halls, halls, traffic and infrastructure areas). For the realization of this space, building plot E1, with an area of 831,488 square meters, has been defined, and the largest plot within it is planned to be a maximum of 5 hectares, according to the plan.
The E2 unit is intended for the realization of accompanying accommodation capacities for the needs of the participants, as well as commercial contents.
The E3 unit is intended for the realization of accompanying commercial content for the participants
- Public enterprises that will have obligations within the EXPO 2027 project - EPS, Electric Networks, Belgrade Thermal Power Plant, Directorate for Land, Serbia Gas and Railways of Serbia, said Vučić.
The start of the construction of the National Football Stadium is planned for June 2024, and architect Mark Fenwick will be hired for that project.
As announced, the stadium will be built according to all UEFA standards, it will have 52,000 seats, and the signing of the contract with the contractor is expected in the coming weeks.
The story of building the National Football Stadium has been current for years, and the project was paused by the corona virus pandemic. Back in June 2019, the Government of the Republic of Serbia formed a Working Group to monitor the implementation of this project, and then the Urban Institute of Belgrade announced a public procurement for the needs of the Spatial Plan.
This year, the second phase of the Spatial Plan of the National Football Stadium began.
The presented plan states that the line infrastructure of the future fair complex will include 8 kilometers of city boulevards, a traffic loop, an overpass, a gas line, a heat pipe, a water pipe, as well as a 15-hectare parking lot.
The line infrastructure contract was signed with the contractor Power China. Also, it is pointed out that the Agreement on preparatory works includes excavation and embankment on 100 hectares of the area, and that 12 months are planned for the projection of those works.
What will happen to the old fair?
With the construction of the new fair, the question of the old one also arose. As stated "Beograd na vodi d.o.o." by purchasing a share in the Belgrade Fair became the owner of property and real estate at the old location of the fair.
- On the site of the old fair, the construction of residential buildings is planned on an area of 37.68 percent, green areas on 6.3 percent, promenades on 16.56 percent, with Hall 1 amounting to 9.21 percent of the total area, and roads 16 .69 percent, the plan states.
It is added that the funds from the sale of shares will be used to develop the location of the new fair in Surčin.
